Analogue and digital designs, cabling and layout, sensor electronics, power electronics and motion control all come together in our extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machines. The light is generated in the EUV source module and is then sent into the illuminator, which controls the light beam. The light reflects off the reticle, or mask containing the pattern to be printed on the chip, and is then focused by the projection optics to ‘expose’ the silicon wafer. The wafers are mounted on tables in what’s called the wafer stage. The stage moves two wafer tables at the same time, each holding a silicon wafer. While one wafer is being exposed to the light, the other is measured by the machine’s metrology sensors to optimize alignment. The wafer tables move electro-magnetically, allowing frictionless acceleration up to 7G.

At ASML, our electrical engineering teams work closely together with other disciplines and departments. You will act as a bridge between our multiple mechanics, software, and hardware departments. In many cases, the electronics domain fulfils an interfacing function between the software and physics domain. Such multidisciplinary work will expand your skill set and give you the option to evolve with our global organization across different departments and areas of expertise. No two days are the same.

At ASML, you get ownership on a wide range of highly unique and complex electrical engineering projects. For example, our power amplifiers need to operate at high power, high accuracy, high bandwidth, and high reliability. To meet the requirements of the product roadmap, they also need to scale down to smaller physical volumes and the thermal design needs to be improved.
Working with state-of-the-art electronics systems of increasing complexity and decreasing volumes is no easy task. So, you’ll need excellent communication skills to collaborate across the business and a real thirst for learning to keep pace with our pioneering development environment.
