Our need for fresh thinkers.
ASML’s lithography machines are used by the world’s top chip manufacturers to produce the chips that power the world’s electronics industry. We’re continually striving to help our customers create smaller, faster, greener chips. We’re faced with some of the toughest and most exciting challenges in the business and our mechanical engineering teams are the foundation of our global organization.
Working across every discipline our mechanical engineers put all of ASML’s expertise into action by designing and building our high-performance systems. As a mechanical engineer, you will design and create a module from scratch and see your ideas mature into a real operational system at our customer sites. You will do this while working with a diverse set of talented technologists as you continually develop new skills across the business.
Why working in ASML mechanical engineering is the ideal job for you:
Innovation meets opportunity as a mechanical engineer at ASML. You will design, build and work with our highly complex machines, helping us push the limits of what’s technically possible. You’ll be finding novel solutions to bring our groundbreaking products to maturity, ensuring they are reliable and easy to service.
Mechanical engineering jobs at ASML provide you with a dynamic and exciting career path, and one that allows you to make an impact both at our industry-leading organization and across the wider electronics industry.
At ASML, you get ownership on complex and highly unique mechanical engineering projects. Our mechanical engineering teams are responsible for pulling together the expertise of every company department and building it into our world-leading machines. We’re the interface between every discipline at ASML, from physics and electronics to materials and contamination.
It’s a hands-on career where you will get the opportunity to design, create and work with the cutting-edge machinery that feeds the world’s electronics industry. For example, you may need to push the boundaries of physics to invent an intricate optics system. Or design a high-level framework for a new tooling machine. Or create a high-precision sensor to push Moore’s law to its limit.
This is not routine mechanical engineering. This is mechanical engineering in the extreme. We do things that no one has ever done before. In extreme environments that do not exist anywhere else in the world. So we need creative problem solvers.
Inside our machines, you need to design systems able to cope with a combination of high speed robotics with incredibly high accuracy, liquid metals, high temperatures, flammable gases, vacuum systems, and heavy-duty lasers. You will need to constantly devise new, creative solutions to balance the functionality of our complex systems and ensure their longevity.
The smaller chips become, the bigger our machines need to be, creating even more engineering challenges. You may be tasked with working out the best way to build our machines so they can be transported halfway around the world, or how to ensure critical parts are positioned to be easy to repair or replace. These are the sort of real-world problems you will have to resolve every day.
Are you a high-level thinker, a practical engineer, or a skilled coordinator? Whatever your preference, at ASML, we actively encourage our mechanical engineering professionals to pursue their desired career path.
We embrace an open company culture, where every opinion is valued. This personal freedom is important to us as you will be working in a challenged technical environment that demands innovative ideas that can only result from such open creativity. There are no boundaries for good ideas.
We are a successful global business that continues to innovate in order to push both our machines and our processes to the limit. We encourage our mechanical engineers to take an active role from day one and provide in-depth training and a mentor scheme to help you get to grips with ASML’s exciting business.
You have a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, or a combination of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Opto-mechanics, Flow & Temperature, Materials, Industrialization.
Typical roles that you can fulfil in your mechanical engineer career at ASML are:
You have the opportunity to develop leading edge hardware solutions for the ASML products of the future. You will focus on designing solutions for positioning, vibration isolation, sensors & measurement, actuators, applications and infrastructure.
You are responsible for the development and application of mechanical designs to meet system specifications and operational requirements. You will focus on designing solutions for positioning, vibration isolation, sensors & measurement and actuators.
You contribute to the development of products by specification, interface definition, design, mechanical calculations (FEM), integration and test execution of mechanical components, eventually being responsible for the design and implementation.
You deliver high level mechanical/ mechatronics system architecture that enables the optimal functionality and cost effective engineering of new systems.
