Why working as a Python developer in ASML is the ideal job for you:

  • Innovate with an unbreakable code base
  • Work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Get your ideas heard across ASML

Unlock your unique career path with Python

Python isn’t just a syntax at ASML. It holds together our pioneering code base, it brings our diverse development teams together and, whatever your ambitions, Python will give you a vast range of career options at ASML.

We use Python across our multi-discipline and multi-cultural development teams. We use it for the calibration and performance monitoring of every machine in our product line. As a result, our Python code helps our customers create state-of-the-art chips using a complex range of diagnostic tools and an intuitive user interface.

The universal utilization of Python means, if you can code with Python, you can do anything at ASML.

Python at ASML

At ASML, we make world-leading lithography systems that create nanometer-resolution chip patterns. We achieve this using both embedded software solutions and a range of established programming languages, including C, C++, and Python.

Our Python code makes sure our machines are calibrated properly from the moment they’re switched on. It performs a vast range of diagnostic tests to keep these machines running as effectively and efficiently as possible. When you’re using multiple machine types, in multiple locations to create intricate patterns on chips that measure only a few nanometers in size, it’s a complex responsibility. That’s because your code ensures the world’s microchips function. If your code breaks, the chips short circuit and the world’s electronics industry flounders.

Our Python code innovates and optimizes at every stage of the chip production lifecycle to push the semiconductor industry to its limits. It is also responsible for the user interface that the world’s top chipmakers use every day to diagnose and fix any issues. And, if a simple fix is detected, then our Python code automatically corrects the issue.

You will be responsible for writing clean and highly functional code to help several stages of the chip production lifecycle and to ensure every component in the system works in unison.

This work is multidisciplinary in nature. For example, you need to work with mechatronics experts to position the mirror correctly and physicists to ensure the shape of the light projects the right pattern on the chip. When you’re working to nanometer precisions, that’s a complex task.

You’ll also be working on a 45-million-line code base. But, don’t panic, our Python autotester regression tests check every piece of functionality so you can have complete confidence in your code.

Results must matter to you. Whether you're writing in C, C++ or Python, you enjoy seeing things move thanks to the code you've created. You take a design-led development approach that incorporates clear specifications so you can design, analyze, document and test against the industry's software specifications.

We have approximately 800 people working with Python, around 1,500 working on software development and another 18,000 colleagues working beyond software and eager to share their expertise.

Working as a Python developer

In a Python developer job at ASML, you:

  • Innovate with an unbreakable code base

ASML’s code base is highly robust and manageable thanks to Python. Python connects every software module we use at ASML, which enables automatic testing across our entire code base, every time you make a change. Not only does this test vehicle remove the need for repetitive regression testing, it also gives you complete confidence in your code. As a result, we are free to innovate and push our work to its limits.

  • Work in a rapidly changing environment

Our Python development teams work with a combination of familiar mathematical tools, such as MATLAB and the SciPy module. But we also innovate using the latest technologies and introducing advanced programming languages and modules to optimize our code base and upskill our staff. It’s a dynamic and multi-discipline development environment where you’ll get the opportunity to work with and learn from other teams and, if you want to, travel internationally.

  • Get your ideas heard across ASML

If you’ve got a good idea, don’t keep it to yourself. At ASML, the company’s flat structure pushes our staff to innovate as we encourage everyone to talk to everyone. We want you to bring new technologies and ideas to the table, so you can forge a career path that’s unique to your ambitions. Simply put, you don’t have to be a manager to have a successful career path at ASML. You can find your own way and the abundance of Python across our development teams gives you a wealth of opportunities.

Meet Petar | Python Software Design Engineer at ASML

Proud to be part of progress

At ASML we believe that technology is a force for good. It connects us, whoever and wherever we are in the world, and it changes how we live, work and play. Headquartered in Brainport Eindhoven, The Netherlands (Google Maps), ASML is the world's leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry. We make the tools for a critical manufacturing step, defining the structures that form the electrical circuits on a chip. We provide chipmakers with everything they need to mass produce patterns on silicon.

Our key technology is the lithography system, which brings together high-tech hardware and advanced software to control the chip manufacturing process down to the picometer. Delivering new functionalities, better performance and lower cost with each generation, advances in chips have spawned new products and transformed industries. All of the world's top chipmakers like Samsung, Intel and TSMC use our technology, enabling the waves of innovation that help tackle the world's toughest challenges.

We are proud of the impact our achievements have on the world around us. We are proud to be part of progress.

I love the atmosphere at ASML. You’ll never get bored here. I work with all different kinds of people. I get to learn a lot from them and I hope that they learn from me as well. Petar Georgiev Software Design Engineer
